Which European City Should you Take your First Graduate Job in

Which European City Should you Take your First Graduate Job in Whether your degree comes to an end this winter or you have one more semester to go, you’ll already be thinking about your first serious graduate job and where it might take you. But perhaps this is a topsy-turvy way to look at things. No job or career takes up every moment of your life, and it can be healthier in the long-run to start out thinking about how you want to live, not just how you want to work. Ambition is great, but too many of our parent’s generation hit a wall when they reached retirement because they never worked out how to live. There are many different factors to take into consideration, including the culture, arts scene, fitness opportunities, costs, and yes economy and job market of a town you’d like to live in. Thankfully, the people at resume.io have done your homework for you and researched the best cities in Europe to live as a graduate, depending on what you’re looking for. Let’s be serious and start with that all-important career consideration: where are the jobs? While different cities have opportunities for different expertise, the researchers found that the overall best city to move to for work is Munich, in Germany. Munich has a thriving economy and just 3.5% unemployment, plus average wages of €2,645.98 ($2,965.06) each month. This is the top average wage of the cities the researchers looked at. Jobs in Munich are particularly on the rise for architects, engineers, and information/communications graduates. Munich also has a pretty hot cultural and social life. But if these aspects are your priorities, you may be better off heading for Austria. The capital, Vienna, came out on top for arts and entertainment in the study. The researchers found that pound-for-pound, Vienna has more museums, theatres, concert venues, and libraries than other European destinations. But just as crucial is an element that can’t be measured: the Viennese ‘culture of culture.’ While a city such as Oslo in Norway may pile hundreds of millions into new opera houses and galleries to make a name for itself as a cultural hotspot, in Vienna the locals (and international art students) simply breathe art and creativity. Just look at the tradition of concert cafes, where music flows as even more freely than the coffee. There is another aspect that will be playing on the minds of many near-graduates thinking of a new city home: can I afford it? The cost of living and average apartment rental were also factored into resume.io’s research. The cheapest place they looked at when taking into account variables such as public transport costs, utilities, grocery shopping, going out, and working out, was Bucharest in Romania. The ‘Paris of eastern Europe’ costs a fraction of the real Paris, with a single person able to cover the costs mentioned for around €439.13 ($492.08) a month. As for rent, it is Sofia in Bulgaria. A one-bedroom apartment in the country’s capital and largest city costs around €364.56 ($408.52) a month maybe one-third of what you would pay in London! Sofia also has the second-lowest cost of living of the cities the study looked at. You might not find all the amenities or attractions of some of the pricier cities on the chart, but you can afford to have a lot of fun looking! Why not take a good luck at the study to see if there is a city that appeals to you or if the city you’ve been dreaming of is as affordable/fun/prosperous as you’ve been told! Even if you don’t see yourself graduating to any of the cities in the chart, it is a great way to start really thinking about what you want from your graduate life. The Top 10 Mistakes New Entrepreneurs Make - Classy Career Girl

The Top 10 Mistakes New Entrepreneurs Make So you have a great idea, and you want to quit your day job and go full time! Live the business dream, right? Well, whoever told you it was easy was wrong. Luckily, other entrepreneurs have done it before you and are here to guide you through the process so you can do it faster without making a ton of mistakes. The Top 10 Mistakes New Entrepreneurs Make Mistake #1: No Plan The first mistake is thinking you have a great idea and it’s time to start without a solid plan. An idea isn’t going to make you rich. You have to have solid action steps and a business model that is actually going to work. I know business plans are overwhelming, but there’s a reason why large companies  have them. When you have a plan, you know where you should be spending your time and you know what your future customers want.  You dont just post a social media update and hope someone will buy your product. Even your social media should be planned out and match your overall business plan. Thats why one of the first things we do for our members in Corporate Rescue Plan is help them create a simple business plan. Mistake #2:    Spending Way Too Much Money First Some investment is necessary. There are startup costs but you can keep it simple. You don’t have to go big and invest in a nice fancy website for thousands of dollars. I actually do not recommend that. Instead, I recommend that you cash flow it! You can start with a small budget, start hustling, find those first clients and then put more into your business. That’s how myself and many of my clients have gotten our businesses off the ground. Investing in yourself and building your knowledge and a few minor things to get your business model up and running and then, go! You don’t need to put a ton of money into it at all! In Corporate Rescue Plan, we provide budgeting templates and pricing guides to help you ensure you create a profitable business. Mistake #3:  Trying to Do Everything Yourself The third mistake is trying to do everything yourself especially when you are employed at your day job still. You need to leverage your time. How I did this was hiring a virtual assistant when I was still employed. My virtual assistant was the best investment I have ever made. She lives in the Philippines and works during her day when I sleep. This is also something I cash flowed to start with and actually,  you’d be surprised at how affordable it is. I learned about virtual assistants from this book, The 4-Hour Workweek, when I was working full time. I  implemented what I learned immediately and took action. This is key! It’s all about the action.  As my business has grown even more, I have learned how important it is to not try to do everything myself. To start with, just take baby steps. Pick one thing you don’t like doing or you know would take you so long to do and ask for help! You don’t always have to pay for this. I got my first videographer of my live event for free because a college student needed work for a school project. Be creative! Mistake #4: Making Things  Perfect Before Launching Mistake #4 is trying to get everything perfect before launching and waiting too long to launch. Taking too much time for thinking and not enough time taking action. When I started, I sold a course I hadnt even created yet.  I didn’t wait and think about it. I’m all about the action. I put my course out there, someone bought it and I HAD to create it. I recommend that you test, sell and create as you go. If I think too much I get paralyzed! Mistake #5: Not Surveying Potential Clients Mistake number 5 is not really, really understanding who your ideal client is. This is a big mistake if you do not solve an actual problem and an urgent problem that your ideal clients have. So this is all about talking to potential clients and learning more about their frustrations. Surveying is great but talking to them is even better. Take notes. Put them in a spreadsheet. See the common themes. What do they say over and over again?  Where’s the intersection between what you are passionate about and what they need? That’s your thing! Don’t just go create your own thing that you think will be sold out by the end of the week. That’s a big mistake and one of the reasons I love creating my products and services with my clients. I enjoy creating as I go because it becomes a much better product than me in my office creating this program I think that people will want. Trust me, I‘ve done the do it alone process and those products always flopped. So learn from me! Mistake #6: Copying Others The sixth mistake is not being different from others out there and copying others. Maybe you are subscribing to every email list gobbling up free information and all of a sudden your website looks like someone elses  and your emails look like someone elses too!  You have to cut out the noise that is going on around you. I know there are ads thrown at you left and right but you have to get quiet and determine your own voice. If you are jealous of someone, something is wrong. Remember that you are unique. Only you have your purpose. Only you have your personal mission and dream. Your dream is for you and is not what someone else is doing. Even if other people are succeeding in what you want to do. That is great! It means there is a market for what you want to do too and you can put your own spin on it. You have a different background and are a completely different person and there are more than 7 billion people in the world. In other words, the pie is big enough that everyone can have a slice. The main point really is this: There are people out there waiting for you to help them. They are just waiting for you right this very second. You have a mission to complete so why not start now. Mistake #7: Not Passionate About Your Business Idea The seventh mistake is starting a business you aren’t passionate about just to make money. Its really important that you know your interests, values, and motivations before starting your business.  Start a business that you  will love doing because it’s really never just about the money. Mistake #8: Doing it Alone The eighth mistake new entrepreneurs make is doing it alone and not having a partner, mastermind group or coach to help you. My business changed overnight when I invested in a coach and I continue to have a mastermind group and accountability partner. A community of support is truly what you need so you are never alone in this. Thats the #1 reason I created my membership community, Corporate Rescue Plan. Mistake #9: Thinking a Blog is a Business The ninth mistake many entrepreneurs make is thinking that having a blog is a business. Blogging has really grown lately and sometimes it makes it seem like everyone is making a living off advertising. Well, let me break it to you gently, getting advertising to replace a full-time income is incredibly hard. You can do it but it will take years of hard work. My goal is helping you quit your job quickly so we need to fast track your income which is why just blogging alone is a mistake. This  was a mistake I made for a long time. I was getting a little bit of advertising and breaking even but I couldn’t quit my job! Thats  why I decided it was time to create my own services and products and is what I recommend you do as well. It’s not that hard you can do it, too. Mistake #10: Not Starting Today The last mistake is not taking baby steps forward and imperfect action every single day. This truly is my motto and how I live my life. I have big dreams and goals too but it’s all about taking baby steps forward every single day. Which mistake hit home?  What is your new business? The Heuristic Method of Learning

The Heuristic Method of Learning http://archive.ecml.at/projects/voll/literacy/english/search_logic/heuristic/menu_heuristic.htmEveryone knows the famous story of how Thomas Edison invented the incandescent light bulb after 1000s of unsuccessful attempts. A young reporter once asked Edison why he kept on attempting to invent the light bulb in-spite of his numerous failures. Edison famously replied ” I have not failed 1000 times, but I have discovered 1000 ways how not to invent the light bulb”.You might have also heard that Edison only had 3 months of schooling, yet was able to establish himself as one of the most successful inventors of the 19th century.Thomas Edison was a practitioner of the Heuristic Method of Learning. In this article, let’s learn more about Heuristic learning; and how you can use it to enhance your career.evalAs per Merriam Webster’s Dictionary â€" HEURISTICS is defined as“involving or serving as an aid to learning, discovery, or problem-solving by experimental methods.”The Heuristi c approach employs a practical method in reaching your goals, though not guaranteed to be perfect. In other words, using trial-and-error you can speed up the process of finding a satisfactory solution. As opposed to traditional learning which usually employs facts, theories, and postulations â€" Heuristic learning involves testing, doing, practice, etc.Though the term “Heuristic Method” is not commonly used 2) Product DevelopmentTraditionally, the prevalent method for programming and product development was the SDLC method i.e. Systems Development Lifecycle. There is a step-by-step process before an actual project is planned, tested and then developed to be released to end-users. Though this style of Product Management is widely used â€" it is being replaced by Agile Methodology. This method speeds up the product development process by incorporating constant feedback followed by testing and then the release. The Agile process is more adaptable as opposed to SDLC which is more pr edictable. In a recent survey, more and more companies are now shifting to the Agile Development Process.2) EntrepreneurshipI started off with an example of a prolific inventor Thomas Edison, but he was also one of the most successful entrepreneurs of the late 19th century. Edison used the same Heuristic methods to marketing selling his products to the mass public. Other successful entrepreneurs who have used Trial-and-error for their ventures include Henry Ford, Richard Branson, etc.evalEntrepreneurs are willing to take more risks and try new ideas methods as opposed to established corporations who are more interested in protecting profits. As a result, Entrepreneurs cause more disruptions in the marketplace and thus create more opportunities. Recently Airbnb and Uber have both disrupted conventional business models that have been around for more than 50 years. So, how does all this relate to you as an individual?I hope I have given you enough evidence that Heuristic Method is the fastest and practical way to achieve your goals.Compared to the traditional method of learning â€" that is analysis, study,theory- the fastest way to learn a new skill or achieve any goal is by taking action.“If you want to get good at anything where real-life performance matters, you have to actually practice that skill in context. The study, by itself, is never enough.” â€" Josh Kaufam, The First 20 HoursYou cannot learn to ride a motorcycle by reading about motorcycles, or by studying how the internal combustion engine works; or how the spark plug ignites the engine. The proven way to learn to ride a motorcycle is just to practice driving it. You will quickly learn how to control the vehicle, how to position your body, how to drive in traffic, etc.The same applies to a business skill such as “Learning to Build a Website”. There are numerous sources on the Internet, and the Libraries are packed with books on how to build a website. The fastest way to build a website is to just get started. Here is what my idea of starting a website looks likeevala) Decide what to write about b) Choose a domain name c) Choose a Hosting Provider d) Purchase the Domain Name e) Purchase a Hosting Package f) Start Writing g) Get Feedback h)Learn new Techniques i) Apply new Writing Techniques j) Write more ArticlesAnd continue the process until you get the right type of message that resonates with your audience.Do yourself a favor, check out WayBackMachine. Summary Sunday Job Search Details It has been awhile since I last created a summary of my favorite shared posts. (If you ever want a summary, feel free to check out RebelMouse or Twylah). Sundays I sift through the content Ive shared (written by others) and recycle it here to make sure it gets on your radar. As the saying goes, the devil is in the details. Now, you could take this two ways. First, you can let the details bog down the process and never get anything doneOR if you dont pay attention to the details, it can totally derail your efforts! 10 Tips for Your LinkedIn Headline By Donna Svei, Avid Careerist Can one little word on your LinkedIn profile turn off recruiters or people looking to find their next great hire? Bill is now an executive coach but he ran his own outplacement firm and sold it to Lee Hecht Harrison. The article supports Ellermeyers work with senior executives, but it is my opinion that the same rules apply to all levels of employees. And one last thing, dont just read the headline of each point. It is written to shake things up a bit and though some of his point sound extreme, they are softened a bit in the description below. For example, he says Avoid headhunters but what he really means and says is that you should know how they work and not to spend too much time chasing them down because they dont represent you, the job seeker, recruiters search on behalf of the employer. The Need For A Techsupport Resume

The Need For A Techsupport ResumeTechsupport resume writing is one of the most challenging jobs today. If you have a good resume but you still have trouble getting the job, you should take the time to get your skills recognized by other techs and employers. The goal is to highlight your technical skills and make sure that your work experience matches what your skills are and what you know. If you get a job based on your resume alone, it will probably end up in a dead end job. However, if you make sure that you go back to school or get certifications and learn new things, your resume can become a valuable asset in getting a job as well. You should take the time to read and be familiar with a resume format before starting. Every company has its own system for creating a resume, so be sure to check this out first. Most companies will put their information in the header and then list your name in a chronological order. This will allow you to show where you have worked before and why.Anothe r common mistake is that most resumes show your skills in a manner that does not make them seem unique or interesting. You should put a lot of thought into what you put on your resume and what you do. You should not just include what you do, but why you do what you do and how you got to where you are now.If you think that a particular company is hiring for the position that you are applying for, find out more about what they are looking for. Many companies specialize in certain things. If you can show that you have some type of skill that is in demand or that is very rare, you may get a chance to show what you have learned to those that will be hiring. The last thing to remember when creating a techsupport resume is to always try to be professional and courteous to all potential employers. Many people feel that they have to brag about how good they are, but in reality you want to be professional and show what you know. Everyone wants to be hired for a good job. If you come across as rude or overly friendly, you will look like an arrogant jerk.Remember that having a techsupport resume will be seen by as many people as it will be read. You want to make sure that you get your work experience listed on your resume as accurately as possible. Your resume is a representation of your skills that a potential employer will be able to see immediately. Make sure that the information is accurate and will make an impact on the potential employer. These tips will help you when you are preparing for your next job interview. You should always take the time to prepare a professional resume that will speak well of you.
